Summary
When a federal agent Betty Cooper gets assigned a case featuring an art thief and forger Jughead Jones, she doesn’t really think much of it. But as months pass, alongside the irritation caused by both the lack of progress in the case and the criminal himself, other feelings start to blossom as well; particularly the ones of respect and admiration. And the fact that Jughead is more intrigued by the agent on his case than terrified of her certainly doesn’t help much with keeping their relationship strictly professional. In their lines of work, pleasure and business certainly shouldn’t mix, but who’s there to stop their foolish hearts?

It’s just a nickname, she reminds herself, and he’s been calling you that for years! But there’s something about the way he says it now that makes her stomach flip. Maybe she’s getting sick.

“Hi, Jug,” she replies, pressing her hands flat against her thighs and willing her heart to stop doing somersaults. “We’re in the same Chem class! That’s exciting.”

They were inseparable as kids, but, as the saying goes, life had other plans. Now, three years after he transferred to the Southside and left her behind, he’s back, sitting next to her in second period Chemistry and making her heart flutter desperately in her chest.
