It was your turn to look out at the city, at all the life speeding by, and take in the silence of the rooftop, how time seemed to move at half the pace.
“I know it hurts, Victor. Being vulnerable is never easy, but it’s better to be honest than to live in a lie with someone who barely knows you and refuses to get to know every part of you. It’s like the relationship is just a shell of what it really could be. It wouldn’t have been enough for you.”

“Sydney?” His voice came back tender, like he’d been thinking about her calling just when she was dialing him. Maybe he really didn’t remember he’d started the conversation by waking her up.
“You wanted to tell me we don’t want too many walls in the kitchen,” she said.
