Gurathin loans Murderbot his genitals during a medical emergency. It's...not as bad as it could be.

Noncon warning is for the inherent nature of the trope - these two are being as respectful of each other as they can manage (so, not VERY).

    Bookmarker's Notes

I like it when the Murderbot-Gurathin dynamic is like "I will kill for you, but also if you fall asleep I'll draw a dick on your face."

    Hang on, hold this.”

And then that fucker gave me control of his hand.

My reasoning was that if I had to suffer natural gravity (ugh) and atmosphere (ugh) and large crowds of humans (ugggh) then Gurathin should be required to suffer too. That isn't what I told him, of course. I told him a different truth, which is that Mensah had asked for security. Well, she had asked for me, which is the same thing.

Murderbot and Gurathin at the Preservation arts festival (Network Effect). Inspired by this wonderful artwork by beeayy which you should definitely go look at first

    Bookmarker's Notes

Murderbot invites Gurathin to an arts festival strictly for security reasons, and there are arts, and there's a Preservation language module impersonally demonstrating some of the finer points of CR awfulness, an adventure, a rogue drone. Murderbot's ability to feel and identify emotions is so delicately observed. Subtle, moving, rewards rereading.

Even though 1's feed connection is disabled, they both turn their heads to look at me. They are making an expression. They are so focused on me.

    "Armour off," says 2.

    "Protocol requires—"

"Fuck protocol," says 2. "Take it off."

"No. Let us take it off," says 1.

SecUnits 1 and 2 survive. With all three of them together— and ungoverned— 3 discovers that there are things it wasn't aware 1 and 2 wanted to do to it.

Things it has no objection to.

    Summary

Murderbot realizes that Gurathin accidentally transferred some of his own memories when he was restoring Murderbot's. As it experiences moments from Gurathin's life (in order to tag them to delete, of course) it chats with him over the feed, debates the finer points of Sanctuary Moon's subtext, and definitely doesn't discover anything about itself.

    Bookmarker's Notes

"I wondered if Gurathin felt the same thing, filtering through my data tangled up in his—the shape and weight of me, somehow its own. Not him, but me. I wondered what pieces of myself I’d inadvertently left behind in him, what he made of them."

    Bittersweet, intimate, subtle.
