Instead of visible repugnance after the third sip like they expected, Noel leans back with a sigh, expression conflicted. John recognizes a similar blush coloring in his face that he knew Arthur had likely already begun to acquire - it usually happened soon after drinking something with alcohol. The pink blossoming beneath his skin only served to highlight Noel’s features, which were already bathed in the afternoon sun reflecting through the window - an interesting hue which framed him in a subtle, enticing spotlight of illumination, John muses, keeping the thought to himself.
“Either this is growing on me, or my tongue is dying.” He holds the bottle aloft, leaning into the stiff seat cushion, staring at it like it held any new answers for him. “You’re up, Arthur.”
On a train bound for New York, Arthur and Noel meet under very different circumstances.
