Summary
To anyone else, nothing has changed, but to Emily, the energy of the conversation has shifted. She sees her starting to get distant, not in the obviously flustered and sometimes frantic way Andy typically would when she feels uncomfortable. She’s conversational, expressive, and her voice has inflections in all the right places for good storytelling, but she’s not entirely present, like she has stepped back and is guiding the conversation from behind a glass wall.
It’s the first time Emily has ever seen this from Andy and she isn’t quite sure what to do with it, or the way she feels about seeing it. She sets the feeling aside for later.
--
Or the one where Emily realizes that Andy can, in fact, hide a feeling, and she doesn't know how to feel about it at the same time someone from Andy's past, who knows why Andy hides certain feelings, comes back into the picture and reconnects with Andy almost instantly, and Andy insists they're just really good friends.
Friends whose lives have intersected so many times that they've woven a pattern together that's uniquely theirs.
Just like Andy and Emily.

Summary
Emily Charlton doesn't have friends. She has her boss, and she has the second assistant.
By any reasonable measure, that's close enough.
So when a man asks her to dinner, and Emily realizes she has never been on a date, never been kissed, never been anything, there is only one person she can ask.
"I want you to teach me," she says.
It's only practice. Right?

Summary
If you had told Daphne Kluger she'd end up working for her (unofficial and unforgotten) ex, she would have called you a liar. She would have laughed, too.
Because, officially, Daphne has never dated anyone. Not once. Not ever.
And she never will. That has been her resolution for a little over five years, ever since the dawn she ran from a hospital and never looked back.
Since then, she has built a perfect life: polished, flawless, and watched by the whole world. There is no room for mistakes when everyone is looking, and no room for the ugly things beneath all those perfect layers.
No room for guilt. For regret. For anger.
And definitely no room for the woman she left behind.
Jody Moreno is just a name now. A name on posters, in magazines, whispered on sets.
A painfully sweet memory buried under a thousand layers and never dug up. Ever.
Or so Daphne thought.
Because all it took was an unread contract and a rushed signature, a simple scribble on a scrap of paper, and Daphne Kluger finds herself on a film set, face-to-face with Jody Moreno.

Summary
"Do you always come to the door dressed like that?" Emily heard herself ask, and immediately hated it, because it had come out as though she'd noticed, when the entire point was that she had not.
"Only when someone knocks." The corner of the woman's mouth went up. "Should I have changed? You'd have waited. I'd have liked knowing you were out here waiting for me."
"Is this how it works over here? You do a favour and then flirt with the woman on your doorstep and call it neighbourly?"
"Is that what you think I'm doing? Flirting?"
--
Or the one where Emily ends up letting the vampire who is great with her children drink her blood once a week for purely practical reasons. Like super practical. So practical. Please stop looking at her like that, Serena.

Summary
Andrea Sachs couldn't stand Emily Charlton at all. Emily Charlton couldn't stand Andrea Sachs at all. It was one of the few things they could completely agree on.
Emily Charlton is a fortress built from sarcasm, control, and years of carefully honed self-preservation. Andrea Sachs was supposed to do one thing: work beside her and survive Runway. Instead, she finds herself trapped in something far more dangerous: the habit of searching for Emily in every room, remembering every gesture, and finding meaning even in her silences. As the line between rivalry, desire, and something far more complicated grows increasingly blurred, both women are forced to confront a truth neither of them is ready to admit.
