Baelon, the spring prince, does not die of a burst belly and Otto Hightower does not become Hand to Jahaerys. When Baelon becomes king after his father, his two sons become his heirs and Viserys, the firstborn, is slowly adjusted to what it means to rule a kingdom and take responsibility (maybe he gets a position on the small council, working himself up to become hand or something)
Of course, Baelon loves both of his sons equally and adores his first grandchild Rhaenyra. So after not too much convincing, and careful consideration and input from his kinsmen of the Vale, he dissolves Daemon's first marriage, as he cannot bear to see his son so discontent.
But Baelon, in contrast to Viserys, is not blind. He sees Rhaenyra's affection for her uncle, the way even as a child she clings to him, begs him to take her with him when he goes on an adventure and wants to go flying with him. And Baelon knows his youngest son, knows the slight he perceived of not having a Valyrian bride...So he betrothes Daemon to Rhaenyra...

But sleep doesn’t come to her, even though her tummy is full of milk, and she is warm in the puppy pile, squashed between Laena and Laenor who are already asleep and snoring. Rhaenyra lies there between them, listening to their snoring. She is always almost the first one to fall asleep, so she starts to count sheeps. But first her mouth waters as she imagines their fat and soft bodies, and then she feels a tingling that starts inside her tummy and moves up and down her body. There is no way she is gonna sleep now, especially as she knows what it means.

Rhaenyra wasn’t raised to be the Queen, as it was expected the mother would give birth to a son one day, but she had been on the council since she was nine years old, learning from her father and Lords.
Daemon was never raised to be the King either. He was a second brother, just a spare if anything goes wrong.
And she was spare too, all her life, not a sister even to anyone, but still spare.
Daemon was an heir, but never supposed to be a King. But then he got that title King of the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea. And what is the title of the King without lands and power? Just a title to brag about. -

Well, it changes when a man enters the club, and really she finds herself captivated by him the second she sets her eyes on him. He is around forty, wearing a dark suit with a white shirt with two buttons undone, walking confidently after Marie, the hostess, to the table. Poor people don't go to these places, and he's definitely not poor. That's the first thing that comes to mind, and the second thing is that he has a very charming wide smile, which he gives to Marie, who places a menu on his table.

She isn’t a werewolf to hear the sound of other people's hearts or identify them by smell, but she seems to be attuned to him as well as he is attuned to her. She straightens her hair and tugs her dress down slightly to show more of her breasts.

His little niece.
She always scrunches her nose whenever he calls her little, saying she doesn’t like that as she isn’t little anymore. But Daemon knows it’s not true — Rhaenyra likes when he calls her “little”, especially when he calls her “my little niece” while his hand is around her throat, his thumb pressed to her pulse point.
It’s an inappropriate gesture for sure, a gesture of ownership.
But who cares?
Definitely not them.
