The black carriage appeared on the horizon as if the shadows themselves had taken shape. Its dark, ancient wood groaned with every gust of wind, while ghostly horses emerged from the darkness, their spectral hooves striking the ground in hollow, echoing beats. Each step sent tremors through the carriage’s frame, a rhythm that seemed almost alive, sensing the heartbeat of its passengers. Dahlia Marigold—DD—froze where she stood, emerald eyes wide, limbs trembling with a mixture of fear and anticipation. The door swung open with a sharp, metallic creak, the black maw of the carriage hungrily inviting her in.
A hand shot forward, strong, inhumanly insistent. DD stumbled, almost losing her balance, her mind racing. Then, like a beacon in the chaos, Maleanor stepped forward, her tall, regal form cutting through the shadows.

“I actually kinda get that.” Vi said, her thoughts floating back to Stillwater, but choice was the last thing that she had when she was there. “Choice? Don’t you just tell them what to do? Give them commands and shit?” Vi had remembered the few times she saw some of the patrol dogs at Stillwater among the general population.
She’d only seen them a few times, but the guards barked commands at the dogs and they had responded to them or they got reprimanded.
