Summary
It is not just the sniffles. Ilya has the flu and is hiding it from Shane so he can play in a game. It turns out this was not Ilya’s best idea and he ends up passing out in the middle of the ice. Shane nurses him back to health and Ilya learns how to let Shane take care of him.
Even though he had only passed out once or twice in his entire life, he recognized the feeling instantly. It was coming. He willed it not to, especially not here, on display in the middle of the ice. Maybe, he thought, if he focused hard enough, if he was determined enough, sheer strength could hold it off.
He beelined for the bench.
Then the warning signs hit. Black splotches crept into his vision, spreading. Instinct took over and he bent at the knees, trying to steady himself, still moving towards the bench or at least he thought he was. The bench had to be close.
And then the darkness took over. Everything went black.

Summary
"His skates edge caught wrong, shifted his weight, and he fucking fell down. The world tilted just enough.
That’s all it took. One bad second. One bad angle. The puck sliding away like it was never his to begin with.
He swallows hard, throat tight.
I lost them the Cup.
The words belong to himself. They’re just there, sitting in his chest.
Why—
“What the fuck was that, Hollander?”"

Summary
The edges of the picture had begun to bend; Shane was like a firework on the very verge of a convulsive explosion. The skirting of the doorway and the hand there gripping it were each as white as the other, and although the phone in his pocket rang and rang Shane made no move to answer it. It had been ringing since he’d last been an idiot, around seventeen minutes ago- when he had sent that stupid fucking message to Ilya Rozanov: “We didn’t even kiss”.
_______
Or, its 2014 and the NHL has returned to Vegas. Shane sends that text and falls head-first off the deep end with a bottle from the hotel's mini fridge. Ilya must try to bring him back.

He knows the relationship between him and Ilya Rozanov needs to stay a secret, but Shane can’t resist calling him from the hospital. He’s surprised by the concern in Ilya’s voice, and even more surprised to find him at his bedside when he wakes up the next morning.
