“If I had,” Chris lingers on the words, watching Eddie intently through the screen, “If I had conditions?”
Eddie feels his stomach knot up. It’s the first time Chris has ever alluded to a willingness to come home. Usually he just shoots Eddie down with a flat “I know” before hurrying off the call. Eddie Diaz will be damned before he lets this chance slip through his hands.
“Anything,” his voice rings with desperation in his own ears, “Whatever you need to feel ready to come home. If I can make it happen, I will.”
Chris eyes him, young face serious as a judge presiding over trial. An apt comparison because only Chris could condemn or parole Eddie. His fate is in his son’s hands so completely that if he was going to therapy, Frank would probably be concerned. Finally, Chris opens his mouth and says something so earth shattering as to crack the foundations of his father’s mind.
“Marry Buck,” Chris says firmly.

The girl sitting beside Kitty let out a rather loud “wow”, so she had to look at the cause.
It was simply a guy. Before she could keep assessing him, he passed by and hit her with his bag hard enough to almost knock her phone out of her hand and maybe leave a bruise in the process.
The jerk didn’t even acknowledge his clumsiness! “Excuse you?!” Kitty demanded because that jerk didn’t deserve politeness.
The guy lowered his glasses and looked at her from head to toes, obviously not missing the same K.I.S.S. ID-card hanging on her neck. His scowl deepened.
“No English,” he barked, looking at her like she looked at the cockroaches she was about to kill, and left.
“Cockroach,” Kitty retorted in a singsong voice as goodbye, using the smile that made sure her dad and sisters were never angry at her.
The jerk stopped and looked back, tongue pressed on his cheek. Kitty gave him a blinding, dimpled smile in return. Huffing, the jerk left with hurried steps.
Whoever that was, Kitty genuinely hoped they never met again
Or Kitty is a sassy, overconfident little shit (as her character profile was described as) and that changes everything.
