Summary
“Enough, Buck” she scolds playfully, “let the kid get away with it.”
“Not my fault I’m the favourite,” Ravi singsongs, sticking his tongue out.
“What!” Buck starts running after Bobby up the stairs, fuming, “Cap! D’you hear that?”.
Hen muffles a snort.
“Did you really have to say that?” Eddie asks, an unimpressed look on his face.
“Nope…” Ravi starts to walk away, “I just like to piss him off…”
Both Eddie and Hen shake their heads as they start working on the ambulance.
“These two…” Hen sighs.
“Don’t tell me… You’re not the one who’s gonna have to deal with Buck’s ‘who do you think really is Bobby’s favourite?’ all night.”
Hen’s laughter booms in the cramped space.
“You chose your poison, man” she claps him on the shoulder.

“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“It’s not my trauma, Hen” he whispers again, not trusting his voice won’t crack, “I should be able to do my job…”.
She’s about to retort that yes, it is his trauma too, his body just proved it, when they hear Buck’s hurried steps.
At her side, Eddie automatically tenses up.
“Eddie…” Hen’s voice is full of sadness.
“I can’t, not right now, I don’t want him to see me like-” he rushes but he doesn’t get to finish before Buck bursts around the corner.
“Eddie! Are you okay? What- what happened?” Buck’s voice is thick with concern, but Eddie can’t. It’s too much for him, too soon. He can’t even look at him.
“I don’t want to see him” he manages to tell Hen, voice cracking. He knows Buck hears it too, but he can’t stop himself, “I can’t.”
He knows it’s unfair. But it’s too much.

Summary
"As they sit in silence in the car, he can feel Buck’s gaze on him.
“Focus on the road,” he tries to tease but it comes out so low that he’s not sure Buck’s even heard it. But instead of ignoring him, Buck’s hand falls on Eddie’s knee.
“Today not such a good day, is it?” Buck asks slowly, almost tenderly and Eddie has to bite the inside of his cheek not to cry.
“It’s going to be ok,” he says back, but he knows he’s trying to convince himself and he can tell Buck hears it too.
“But-”
“Really, Buck,” he closes his eyes before pleading, “Please”. Because he doesn’t deserve Buck’s attention and he’s afraid of what this attention might do to him. He’s afraid to settle in the heat of Buck’s affection and never be able to leave it. He doesn’t deserve it anyway."
________OR: Eddie mourns the loss of his son but loses himself along the way and ends up in the hospital. Buck is here to pick him up.

"Maddie's asked me to come to visit our parents with her and Jee…" he takes a shuddering breath before adding, "Apparently my mother is throwing a party for her two years and it would, and I quote "reflect better on the family if Evan was there too"… ". Buck closes his eyes and throws his head back. "Fuck" he curses.
Bobby winces at the sight. He gently leaves the spatula next to the pan and turns to face Buck:
"You don’t feel like going?" he asks gently.
For the first time ever since he walked out, Buck looks up at him. Instead of answering, he just laughs a dry and humourless laugh. Bobby had it coming, he knows about Buck's family history, but he doesn’t want Buck to feel like he's intruding.
"No…" he sighs at last, "no I don’t want to go… I don’t feel like going and I can't even imagine myself back there, in that house," he says and rubs his hand down his face."

Summary
Suddenly, that flirty smirk still present on his lips, Eddie pulls the cowboy hat from his own head and plops it right onto Buck’s curls, making sure to press it down softly so it will stay.
“Here you go, cowboy,” he says, his voice gentle, yet heated in a way that Buck has never heard from him before. As he watches, Eddie’s tongue pokes out, wetting his lower lip, before his teeth sink into it. Buck immediately recognizes the signs for what they are. His best friend is flirting with him. “I’ll be with Chim and Hen when you’re done.”
And then he is gone. His perfect ass on full display as he saunters away to where their friends are ready to leave.
Thoughts whir through his brain. He knows the sign, has used it before, back during his own ranch days. When he used to wear cowboy hats regularly.
Setting your cowboy hat onto someone else’s head means you want them to ride you.
Such a simple rule. Easy to know, easy to spot. An offer. A question.
But right now? A fucking claim.
