Summary
The Asset watched as his handlers brought in a stranger—a man with a metal object stuck to his chest that was hooked to a car battery.
The handlers shoved the man onto the stool where many who had operated on the Asset’s arm in the past had sat before.
“Asset,” one handler said, “meet the Mechanic. He will be responsible for the upkeep of your arm. Should anything malfunction, kill him.”
The Asset eyed the Mechanic. The Mechanic was glassy-eyed and unresponsive.
He’d probably be dead in a week.

Summary
Tony wasn’t entirely sure how it had happened.
He remembered the before, easily enough; the discovery of the HYDRA base in Canada, and the meeting with the team about it afterwards. The decision to let Tony do a quick flyby for recon before the whole team went in, and then the actual flight to the base. After that, though, everything was a blurry, pain-and-agony filled blank…
Until waking up in a strange bed with the freaking Winter Soldier looming over him.

In which Bucky nurses Tony back to health after a mission gone wrong, Tony is a horrible patient, and Bucky wonders how Tony has lived as long as he has.

Imagine Tony is separated from the team and badly injured during a fight with Hydra. Bucky, who hasn't yet been brought in from the proverbial cold, finds him and nurses him back to health, with Tony being his usual awful patient self. “Have you guys seen Tony since yesterday?” Bucky asks the rest of the team when he finally tracks them down, assembled in the communal kitchen for breakfast. “JARVIS says he never came home last night."
“I wouldn’t worry,” Clint says with a shrug. “He probably picked up a girl or something.”
“Tony’s a grown man. I’m sure he’s fine,” Steve says as he brushes past.
Bucky swallows and nods, but can’t fight the dread settling in his stomach like lead.

Summary
For years, Tony had successfully kept his secret. Neither the world nor his team knew he was Iron Man and as far as he was concerned, everyone was better off that way. On his best days, Tony Stark was not someone people liked and trusted, so the last thing Tony wanted was to tarnish Iron Man’s good reputation by revealing the truth.
But then SHIELD falls, the Avengers face disarray, and a stray Hydra assassin forces Tony to go into hiding—and where better than the safe house he had just crafted for the Avengers and their own ex-assassin ready to come in from the cold?
Tony plans to hide away from everyone in his makeshift workshop until the coast is clear and he’s safe to go home. No one would care to spend any time with the reclusive, arrogant billionaire anyways, right? Iron Man is the one everyone wants around.
Bucky Barnes, on his own journey to reclaim his life and identity, seems to disagree with that sentiment.
