His phone buzzes again, and Lan Zhan picks it up this time. To his surprise, it's a message from the Blood Bank.
The Blood Bank was a way for him to make money faster, beyond his usual teaching job, to help his mother. He tried not to think too much about the fact that there were random faceless vampires feasting on his blood.
Frowning to himself, Lan Zhan clicks the message.
"You have been selected as a special provider for a very prestigious client! The Yiling Laozu has chosen you to be a part of his regular collaborators!"
Lan Zhan raises an eyebrow when he sees the name.
Very few vampires are known amongst humans, because they keep well hidden, but Yiling Laozu is one of the most well-known ones.

Summary
A letter from the imperial palace arrived early in the morning.
In front of the gathered clans and hundreds of cultivators, the letter was read: His Imperial Majesty congratulated the Yiling Laozu and the late Empress Dowager's clan, Gusu Lan, for their betrothal.
With the emperor's announcement, the decision was made for them and their fates were sealed.
(Or: The first time the Yiling Laozu was married, it was to Nie Huaisang. The second time, he was obliged to take Hanguang-jun as his second husband.)

Summary
Wei Wuxian is perfectly content to be a beta in the modern-day Jiang sect, his status making no complications for his position as Head Disciple. When Yibo gets the call to represent Apolune in a last-minute substitution for the Genubian asteroid rights negotiation, he drops everything to make it to Helion before the talks start. He gets there before his wardrobe does, even; and after a reception that passes in a sleep-deprived haze, he wakes the next day ready to face down the Helion consul and hold the line for Apolune.
That would be fine—this is Yibo’s job, after all. It’s just unfortunate that the consul of Helion has a very familiar face.
