It wasn't a question. Sure they wanted him to state his name for them, but it wasn't a request. It wasn't optional. It was an order. Oh but if they knew him even in the slightest they would know just how much he loved taking orders. This had been going on for how long now? Hours? Days? And they hadn't gotten him to say his stupid name, so clearly continuing the same things would break him right? Wrong. He wouldn't break. Not if he could help it.

Dean looked up from his glass of whiskey, the beautifully numbing liquid forgotten in favor of hearing his brother’s answer as Sam came into the large library area of the bunker where Dean was currently sitting. His frown deepened immediately however upon seeing the look in his little brother’s eyes and the small shake of his head. “Dammit..”

The past few days have just been weird. Yeah, that was the best way to describe it. Summary
Dean Winchester’s father always cautioned him against settling down or getting close to anyone. Throughout their childhoods, Dean and his little brother, Sam, were always on the move, never staying in one place for very long. The one exception to that rule was their father’s oldest (and only) friend, Bobby Singer. It was with Bobby that Sam and Dean were able to have at least some semblance of a childhood. Years later, with their father dead and the brothers estranged, Dean comes back to Sioux Falls to help out in Bobby’s garage while Bobby recovers from rotator cuff surgery. Dean is initially thrilled when he realized the house he’s rented is owned by none other than the famous novelist, Castiel Novak. Dean met Castiel years earlier at a book signing, and had been harboring a crush on the shy, earnest man with the love of Vonnegut ever since. Dean soon discovers that the years haven’t been kind to Castiel, and the man whose house he’s sharing is almost completely unrecognizable from the man he met all those years ago, in more ways than one. And so begins Dean's journey of forgiveness, acceptance, and learning what it truly means to be part of a family.

Dean Winchesters family wouldn't be what you called normal, but at least they were alive. They moved around a lot, and Dean got beaten. But at least he protected Sam and made it so they had money. But one day he had to take a test, a mandatory one on a weekend. He trusted his father would be out at a bar and Sam would be home alone. But he came back to a dead Sam, and suicidal father, who then committed suicide. He was left selectively mute and had PTSD. He was put with Bobby Singer, his surrogate uncle, and also the chief of police. When Dean starts going to the police station after school and meets Castiel Novak, a detective that works with the police station, will he learn to trust again?
