Summary
Dean Winchester has never hated anything as much as he hates being an omega. Once he's old enough, he spends the winter months - or the wolf months, as they're called; when shifters change into their wolf form - away from his family and finding his way on his own. What he also finds, though, is a black alpha wolf with piercing blue eyes. Despite Dean's trepidation about alphas, the two make a formidable team and survive two grueling winters with each other's help. But Dean's dumb luck means he always loses the alpha before he can find out his true identity.
When Dean becomes an Enforcement Officer for the Shifter Regulation and Control Board, he's given a position with a regiment that includes a tall, dark-haired alpha with familiar blue eyes. He's relieved to finally find his trusted, long-lost friend, but Dean never allows himself to acknowledge any feelings beyond friendship. When an enemy force begins threatening the shifter population, and their regiment finds themselves in the middle of the conflict, keeping each other alive becomes Dean and Castiel's main priority.

Summary

The only sounds that reached him clearly were the noises that signaled an attack about to happen in a matter of seconds. He felt himself being moved, his legs unable to support him, but Sam’s were firmly planted on the ground. He went from leaning against the boy’s chest to leaning against his back, as Sam had put him behind him and was still holding a tight grip on Andy’s right shoulder.
But the noises were getting louder, exactly the same as a few minutes earlier. He clung to Sam. At least if he died dismembered, he would do so embracing a boy willing to use himself as a shield to save him.
