Avery's ears started ringing, the realization that D3rLord3 was a man beyond a video and a player in the game becomes increasingly vivid to his warry eyes and jumbled mind. D3rLord3 had a fiancée. A fiancée wondering where he went. She was cities away from the love of her life at the moment with no idea what he was doing. No video to watch repeatedly to analyze, no file to read and decipher, and certainly no world to join.
"When..." Avery paused, swallowing the lump in his throat as his hands shook. "When are you getting married?" He finally asked her. The woman who knew D3rLord3 like the back of her hand, the one who memorized his face over and over again— the face that Avery has no idea of.
He hears the smile and joy in her voice, although it was rough with melancholy and worry; he felt the love along with the pride she had in D3rLord3. As though the single thought of their marriage was one of her brightest accomplishments. "This summer, by the beach near my childhood home." She said.
