Will lifted his eyes back to Mike’s, watching his expression slowly soften.
“Don’t be stressed. It’ll be okay. We’ll get out of here. Maybe we’ll be in range soon and our walkies’ll work so we can tell them we’re safe.”
Sharp tears began to sting in Will’s eyes. It was so rare for Mike to use his soft tone that he would always use during childhood, and every time that it slipped out, Will was faced with a wave of nostalgia.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Now come on. We need to keep moving.”

Or when Will is stuck in the woods throughout a chilly October night with Mike, who he'd tried his best to avoid over the eight months he'd been living in his house. They clearly came from some sports team; one was wearing a jersey- a player, he figured- and the other, older, a hoodie proudly displaying some team logo that was blocked by the younger one’s body. His eyes were instantly drawn to their all-black attire. On the front of his shirt, the player donned a striking crimson number: 03.
His brain didn’t catch up to his eyes until he looked just above the number. In small, white print, read “Edgar Allen.”
