“I really tried,” he continued, stomach twisting in fear that they would be disappointed. “I swear. I didn’t mean to keep this from you. I didn’t mean for this to happen”
“Son, you don’t need to explain anything to us.” David was trying to cut through his returned panic, keeping his hand on Shane’s shoulder. “And no apologies. We are just so sorry this happened to you.”

It's December 2017. Shane is happy. He's figuring out how to navigate long-distance with his boyfriend, enjoying the fact that they're getting the plan together. That's until his conversation with Rose from a year earlier is leaked online. His carefully considered plans to come out to his friends and family before telling the whole world are fucked.
