His eyes followed El across the floor- the man seemed to know what he was doing, if their gliding was any indication. She laughed as he spun her, a hand planted safely on her waist, and a sudden thought occurred to Will.
Maybe, if this night went well, he wouldn’t be the only one to gain from it.
After all, no one deserved happiness more than El. She’d endured so much, so much more than anyone he knew, himself included, and if tonight was her ticket out, well then, maybe they could stay just a little longer. Maybe she’d find someone to love her tonight, to take her out of that house, away from those horrid Turnbows-
Something caught Will’s eye.

Summary
The line clicked, and Will all but slammed the phone down onto the receiver, ignoring Lucas’ curious glance. He loved Carlton, he really did, but… well... the I love you thing, which had started as a sweet joke, had evolved over the years, a requirement anytime Will so much as left the room. And the phone calls… it was definitely an HR violation.
Against his better judgement, he let his eyes drift over to Mike.
He was leaned back in his rolling chair, phone tucked between shoulder and ear, yellow notepad balanced on his knee. His eyebrows were drawn together, lower lip caught between his teeth in concentration.
He nodded along to whoever was on the other end of the line, murmuring affirmations, but his eyes flicked up anyway- straight to Will- before darting back down like he’d been caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to.
(Will’s stomach flipped like a teenager.)
