Summary
Buck admits sometimes he has his dumbass moments.
He likes to think he’s a overall averagely intelligent man (modest too) but he understands the signal when Hen lets go of a ever-suffering sigh, when Eddie’s roasting comments sit plain on his expressive face, or the scrunched up face Chim has when he’s mentally refraining from face-palming. Those signals are a dead giveaway that words came out of his mouth before his brain filtered them.
And this situation was no exception.

Summary
“I’m looking forward to working with you Buck.” Eddie reaches a hand out to Buck in greeting, refusing to seem intimidated by the younger man. Buck sits up from where he was sitting on the couch and simply stares at the outstretched hand. He looks up to see Eddie’s face, without shaking his hand, and states “only my friends call me Buck.”
He knows the befuddled expression painting his face would be humorous in any other context, but right now he doesn’t know what the hell he did to warrant the freezing cold shoulder. A low whistle comes from a nurse in the corner of the room.

A short story set during World War I follows Eddie, a former army medic, stationed at a World War I training camp. Amid an influenza outbreak, he forms an unlikely relationship with a young doctor named 'Buck'. Will their camaraderie persevere through the vicious pandemic or will it be their ruin?

Rozanov concluded the interview with a nod, hefted his bag higher onto his shoulder, and turned to leave. Hayden’s first reaction was to notice that Rozanov had the same type of bag that Shane had brought to the arena by accident. That was then followed by the thought that it was funny that Rozanov’s bag had a worn out spot on the strap like the bag he’d been carrying earlier. And then some more capable portions of his brain informed him of the truth.
Shane had accidentally brought Ilya Fucking Rozanov’s bag to the arena.
Shane asks Hayden for a favor. Hayden comes to some wildly incorrect conclusions.

Long after Farah hangs up, the words keep echoing in Shane’s head. If he had thought his thoughts had been chaotic this morning, when his biggest problem had been his rival potentially fucking him when he came to Montreal in two weeks, that’s nothing compared to the code-red panic that started the instant he found out he was being traded to Rozanov’s team.
Rozanov, who was supposed to be his great career rival. Rozanov, who he’s hooked up with twice now. Rozanov, who had been planning on coming to Shane’s apartment in Montreal to fuck him the next time they saw each other. God, how on Earth is Shane going to walk into his locker room in Boston in a few days time?
The impending awkwardness of dealing with Rozanov is almost enough to eclipse the hurt he’s trying to ignore. The knowledge that Montreal values him so little that they’re willing to dispose of him only six months into his rookie season. Almost, but not quite.
