    Summary

    "Why did you choose to bring about ten colonies?"

    Kenjaku did not answer at once. He stood with his back to the question, gazing out across a darkness with his hands folded behind himself.

    Then, finally, he lifted one hand, almost idly.

    "In some schools of Buddhist thought, existence is often divided into ten realms, from the hells and hungry ghosts below to the bodhisattva and the Buddha above. The universe is but a ladder of mind, suffering, craving, instinct, humanity, heaven, learning, awakening, compassion, and enlightenment, all turning within one another rather than sitting neatly apart. Isn't that profound?"

    He turned, the gentlest of smiles gracing his lips as he posed his own question;

    "Why did you choose to bring about ten people?"

    Ten Culling Game colonies. Ten reincarnated souls.

    On the 12th of November, 2018, the balance of the world shifted for the first time since the birth of Satoru Gojo.

    And it would never recover.

    Summary

    A pair of hakama pants rippled in a gust of wind that seemed to gather unnaturally around him, the fabric twisting and turning to a breeze that Maki couldn’t feel. His upper body didn’t look solid— there was a translucence to it, a subtle warping at the edges, like a heat haze or something not quite physical.

    It took her several more seconds of staring before her addled, discombobulated mind registered that she was staring at the man she’d killed several days ago, and the curse she’d thought was vaporised less than an hour ago.

    Naoya Zen’in, bare except for just his lower robes, hovered a few inches off the asphalt, his posture relaxed in a deliberate sort of way, his hair still sewage-blonde even in death, shifting slightly as he tilted his head to the side.

    “Well,” he drawled, his voice dripping with a disdain that was quickly becoming as familiar as it was fucking unbearable to listen to, “Would you look at that.”

    Summary

    “So,” Cell said to himself, holding his hand to his chin. It was an odd experience, that; his face was encased in a chitinous helmet that still had sensation, and touching it was kinda freaking him out. That, and the fact he was sitting in a fighting ring he’d only encountered before in a shounen. THE shounen, it could be argued. “I’m a bug-man now.”

    He stared at the stone beneath him, considering the various decisions he’d made in life that led to this moment. He couldn’t really think of any at the moment, considering his memories were concerningly hazy regarding the time between a normal morning and waking up in the body of Perfect fucking Cell, but he was sure it went wrong at some point.

    When he'd died, probably, or when he'd gone to sleep. That was typically how these things went, even if he didn't exactly remember doing either of those.
