It was an ordinary evening when Kaveh decided to test a little theory.
They were in the wet kitchen, and Kaveh was squinting down at a pot of curry. He tasted it, smacked his lips thoughtfully, and put down the small spoon. "It's still a bit... hm," he said. "Pass the salt."
Alhaitham did, their fingers briefly touching. "Thank you," Kaveh said, very deliberately, and glanced over.
Alhaitham's cheeks turned pink. It could be the steam from the pot. Or it could be—
"How much salt are you going to add?"
—It could be the thank you... Wait, what? Salt? Salt!! "Fuck!" Kaveh cried.
Alhaitham likes it when Kaveh says thank you.

"Why're you hiding your scent, Alhaitham?" Kaveh watched Alhaitham's nose flare, watched him take in his scent, and wondered how he hadn't noticed sooner, how Alhaitham had managed to keep up such an act for so long.
Silver brows drew together in confusion. "Because I prefer my living situations peaceful. Not that I have much peace with you present."
He'd always thought Alhaitham was a beta. Everyone had. His scent was so weak that he hadn't even noticed it, not really. However a strange scent in their home has Kaveh questioning not just Alhaitham but himself as well.

Rationally, Kaveh shouldn’t ask Alhaitham if he wants Kaveh to help him. He really shouldn’t. Sex could ruin this peace treaty they have non-verbally contracted between them. Sex could mean things will get horribly, terribly awkward. Sex would mean that Kaveh would never be able to look at Alhaitham without thinking of the memory of Alhaitham’s hands all over his body.
“Have you really thought this through?” Alhaitham asks once again, and he hasn’t sounded this serious since his offer to house Kaveh so many moons ago.
“This is my fault, as you said. I should take responsibility.” Kaveh weakly replies, licking his lips nervously. “Right?”

“What’s wrong?” a voice asks him from the side, and when he swivels his head around there stands Alhaitham, in his black turtleneck and chartreuse jacket and quizzical expression, and when Kaveh looks up again he finds that the sky is gone.
Kaveh experiences his very first dream.
