Summary
What does it mean for a man who's spent his whole life hurting and killing others to suddenly be able to feel empathy and pain?
The events of Whole Cake Island push Vinsmoke Judge to desperate measures when he concludes that his sons aren't the perfect soldiers he once thought they were. A perfect soldier, he reasons, wouldn't have given up when the Big Mom Pirates turned on them, even if there was no reason to believe they'd survive. His sons need to be fixed, and in order to do so, he needs to come up with a procedure that'll give them what they've been missing.
Ichiji doesn’t know, is incapable of knowing what it is he truly signs up for when he volunteers to be his father's first test subject.

“The one and only,” Wukong says, grinning. He appears out of nowhere, monkeys following his footfalls. “What’re you doing here?”
“I-I-”
“It’s dangerous, you know, for a kid to be up here,” he continues. MK wishes he had fallen into the river. “It’s hard for any normal mortal to get here. Freak helicopter accident?”
MK turns back to the river. “No. No, it wasn’t an accident.”

“I’ve never killed anyone… In your village.” Shadow defended, and Sonic felt sweat dripping down the back of his neck.Or, when one of Eggman's attacks actually succeeds in wounding Sonic, he and Shadow are forced to spend some time together. To both of their chagrin.
