You were the result of Borros Baratheon's younger sister and a Targaryen lord absconding with each other and getting married in secret. When your father died and your mother got a terrible fever after your birth, she asked your uncle to take you in, to keep your heritage a secret. To let you grow up free from Targaryen expectations.
In the end your uncle sent you to his friend Robert Quince on Dragonstone, for he knew his friend would keep you safe and hidden. No one had thought you might claim a dragon, that a dragon might claim you in return.
And when you discovered through sheer dumb luck and impossible happenstance that Laenor Velaryon lived still, you were helpless to do anything but reveal the truth to his mother, Princess Rhaenys. Your secret now revealed in turn, Rhaenys promised to keep it with you, inviting you to come to live with her in Driftmark.
And for a time, all was well. Until King Viserys died and when you returned to Storm's End to beg for your uncle's support for Rhaenyra, you met Prince Aemond.

Beautiful and deadly and kept in a tank, and despite the danger of the situation, despite the fact that he was clearly very capable of killing you if he felt like it, you couldn't turn your back on him. Doubly so when a mer-child was unexpectedly added to the mix.
Really, what were you supposed to do but help them escape and hope you'd survive that experience? And why was that dangerous mer watching you like that?
