Summary
They were wearing a clown mask. Somehow just jarring enough to pique Wilbur’s curiosity. A clear parallel to the aggressive casino aesthetic surrounding them, but just offset enough to seem subversive.
Their whole outfit was to match too, which only impressed Wilbur more. Anyone willing to dress up like they were straight out of a circus, complete with flared crimson sleeves and horn-like lilipets earned a little admiration for commitment to the bit.

“Huh,” Tommy said quietly. It didn’t look like any wine he’d ever seen before. It was too red, too rich. But then again, Tommy was underage and much too poor for wine; he couldn’t really claim to be an expert. It must be some kind of ultra-expensive wine—the Watsons certainly seemed rich enough for that.
Phil’s grin widened, stretching just slightly too far. It was the kind of smile that felt like an inside joke only he understood.
His eyes lingered on Tommy’s face, then Tubbo’s, then Ranboo’s, before he lifted his glass in a silent toast. The gesture shouldn’t have meant anything, but something about it made Tommy’s stomach twist. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

With Ranboo by his side, the opening of the Wilburger Ranvan was bound to go smoothly. The only problem with it was that it hinged on having someone by his side who could cook. Ranboo had tried to demonstrate their capabilities, but, somehow, they’d ended up with a cake made of spaghetti when trying to create a burger. Wilbur worked as a temporary solution, but since he could not taste, everything he made was bland and either burnt or undercooked.
Thankfully, Wilbur knew that his little brother would be visiting him soon. After the fight he and Quackity had dragged him into, Tommy had needed some time for himself to decompress. But, after a few days of self-imposed isolation, he was good to go!
He had a crystal clear vision of their future that shattered in an instant when he explained it to Tommy.
“Sorry, Big Dubs, Tubbo’s just started working at the Tubburger joint in Las Nevadas. I can’t work for his competition. Not when I know this is very important for him. He was talking about new beginnings and healing, and that’s the most I’ve heard him even tangentially mention his emotional well-being in my life”.

It’s not your fault.If only Tommy could believe that. Not all of the Red on his hands is blood, but it barely helps. His life at the SCP Foundation is routine: white walls and bland ‘food’ broken up only by visits with Philza if he’s lucky, doctors and researchers if he isn’t, and The Blade if he’s really, really unlucky. Survival has a cost, but rarely is it one he himself pays, and the guilt of what he's done is almost enough to convince Tommy that the Foundation is right to lock up dangerous anomalies like him.
But then one day a bee appeared in his cell. That’s not to say things got better, but, well, they certainly weren’t so mundane anymore.

They were half frozen, desperately clutching their stuffed animals and each other in search of a bit of warmth. Wilbur had snarled at the adults approaching them that day with his slightly sharpened teeth while Tommy simply curled further into his older brother's malnourished chest. When the people promised warmth and food and care, Wilbur had no choice but to cave and reluctantly allowed them to help Tommy and him off the ground and into a car that brought them to the rest of their lives.

Wilbur runs his fingers through Tommy’s hair. Months ago, Wilbur had done the same, and little naive Tommy’s eyes had lit up. Upon being asked, Tommy happily confirmed- he loved it when Wilbur touched his hair. Whether it be little braids, brushing or hair ruffles, Tommy had loved it.

Really, he wasn’t.
Sure, he had his low points, he’s done things he regrets just from the sheer lack of options around him, but it was only now that he felt such a crushing sense of doom. There was nowhere else to run and, in all honesty, he was absolutely fucked.
He couldn’t get out of this. Not with smooth talk, not with lies or bluffs or even bribes. Though- he doubted he really had anything that’d count as a bribe in his pockets. Last he checked he had some gum he stole and a cool rock he found earlier but that was about it.
Maybe there was a crumpled up receipt but that was for a pastry he ate hours ago so he doubted the police would accept that either. It could maybe work out if they had to lie about buying a pain au chocolat though.
Either way he doubted it’d end well.
