Summary
Tommy crouched down on the ground, his back to Tubbo. “Climb up” he ordered. And, while he might have been Tubbo’s superior, that was such an incredibly stupid idea that he elected to ignore him. His friend was not pleased with that decision. He wiggled his fingers in Tubbo’s direction as if trying to get a cat’s attention. “Come on, Tubso, I don’t got all day”.
Still, he stubbornly remained right where he was on the ground. He even crossed his arms for good measure.
“Oh, come on! Why are you being so difficult?!” Tommy whined, now sounding like he was the one who could barely stand.
Looking at him shaking even as he was kneeling, maybe that wasn’t far off the truth. After all, even if he did have an arguably less physically demanding day than Tubbo, looking after a toddler and having to deal with Dream for however short their encounter had been could not have been easy. Even if he wasn’t as tired, there was no way he wasn’t entirely emotionally drained.
Maybe Tubbo shouldn’t have been trying to make his life even harder. But that day, he was feeling petty.

Summary
Nature and Progress were twin Gods born barely a few eons apart. They spent most of their time together, talking, playing, and admiring each other’s creations.
Nature was the more passionate of the two. Everything from the smallest of flowers to the biggest of spiders filled him with awe. He often spent years just running around and cooing at everything he encountered. However, there was a downside to that powerful flame that lit him up brighter than the sun, and it was that his moods were unstable. He was quick to follow his whims, routinely shedding his divinity to live one life among mortals as one of their own.
In contrast, Progress, while also passionate about his domain, had an easier time remaining detached from it. He didn’t understand his friend’s need for his escapades; he saw no appeal in mortality. However, he always missed his friend when he ran off. Divinity was much less fun without him by his side.
One day, when Nature yet again vanished without a word, Progress decided that he was done waiting around for him to return while doing nothing.
There was no point in him shedding his divinity as well, but that didn’t mean that he couldn’t wear a silly mask.

Summary
There were very few character flaws that Tubbo wasn’t willing to overlook for the sake of his best friend.
He knew how rowdy the other teen could get. He’d witnessed the side-effects of his arrogance and of his impulsivity during the long-winded trial that led to his exile. He knew he could be reckless in battle, often turning himself into a shield with the confidence of a man who didn’t think he could die, despite already having made a trip to Hell and back.
Tubbo knew all of that, and still he loved his best friend. Less so in spite of his imperfections and more so together with all of those, because they were what made Tommy himself.
So, imagine his surprise when what finally managed to give him a moment of pause was when Tommy brought over his ‘pet’ when moving into the mansion. The blond had asked for permission in advance, although now that he could see what his precious furbaby was, Tubbo was starting to understand why he’d remained vague about the species.
In front of him stood an eight-legged horror.

Summary
One day, like so many before and so many after, Tubbo found in his Limbo somebody new. They were young, their spirit was that of a fighter, but they seemed happy at the idea of letting that go. They were tired, disappointed, and sad. But none of those feelings were connected to the loss of their life. That seemed to be nothing more than a mundane task for them, no more heavy in their mind than having to decide the pattern in which they wove together the white chrysanthemums within their reach. Although the thing about them that stuck out the most to Tubbo was undoubtedly their species. They were human-adjacent. Pure humans no longer existed; however, they were close enough to one that they undoubtedly understood the implications of death.
And yet there they were, making crowns that they refused to wear upon their head.
What an odd sight that was.

Summary
“You’re not my Tubbo” Tommy stated after a couple of beats of silence. “I can tell. You’re not looking at me as if you’ve just seen a ghost, the way he does after dreaming about my death. You’re hurt, pissed, and a little bit scared. And only two of those are emotions my Tubbo allows himself to feel”. They’d spent so much time apart that Tubbo had forgotten how observant his old best friend could be.
As much as it had been only a ridiculous theory that he’d barely considered, having ended up in a parallel universe where everything was upside down did explain a lot. As a matter of fact, he would have even dared to say that it explained everything.

Summary
It would not have been incorrect to say that one of the reasons why Techno had suddenly decided to organize a family dinner for the first time in his life was because, during his latest visit to Snowchester, he’d found out that Ranboo, his protege, was married to Mr. President and the Traitor. Not only that, but, as it turned out, those three had a kid together, a small zombie piglin, and that sure did make him feel some kind of way.
It hurt to know that Ranboo didn’t trust him enough to tell him about his family. He hated being in the dark. It made it harder to know who he could truly count on.
But it would have been a lie to say that this breach of trust alone was the reason for his newly-found desire for some social interactions. Technoblade was not such a weak man.
No, there was something that he disliked even more than being lied to by his loved ones, and that was people doing things wrong. And one look at his little brother’s too-thin frame, his pale skin, his graying hair, and the dark circles under his eyes had been enough for him to decide that his partners were clearly not caring for him properly.

Summary
Despite his aversion to his face and body, that day Tubbo couldn’t take his eyes away from the mirror in his office at the White House.
There was something wrong with his reflection.
Tiny twin horns protruded from his skull. They were sore still; they’d grown in during the night, leaving him writhing with pain for hours, sleep-deprived, and with one of the strongest migraines he’d ever had. That was a combination of symptoms that would have lent itself to some good old denial; it would have been easy to dismiss almost anything as a hallucination when his vision was already so blurry that it gave him a constant sense of vertigo; however, unfortunately, he could feel them. Not only in the sense that he could touch those nubs with his hands, but also just independently. They were there, constantly pulsating.
His horns were real, and he hated them.

Summary
“Tommy burned down George’s house?” he asked for the umpteenth time in the past ten minutes. Surely this time, Dream would come back to his senses. Surely he would eventually see reason. Tubbo just had to repeat himself with increasing incredulity enough times for the absurdity of that claim to become too self-evident for anyone with half a brain to deny.
That was his only hope.
His last meager hope.
And like the cruel bastard that he was, Dream immediately squashed it under his metaphorical boot. “Yes!” he yelled with all the confidence of a fool who blamed the ground he stood on for maliciously tripping him one time when he was four. “He burned down the cottage George put so much effort into building and defaced the walls of it with crude messages” he kept on insisting, with the stubbornness only someone in the right or Technoblade could afford.
There was no point in trying to wait for Dream to regain the capacity to reason. He was too far gone, and Tubbo had to accept that.
“Dream…” Tubbo started, tone softer than he’d ever used before with the older man. “Tommy is a cat”.

Summary
At midday, the sun reached its peak over the Las Nevadas’ desert, lighting the sparkling artificial sand underneath it ablaze. Shadows were reduced to nothing, and, outside of the glittering city and all of its shady alleyways, there were few to no places to hide. Every crevice, pit, and natural cavern that had once existed there had either been leveled or filled in to ensure the safety of the poor gambling addicts that routinely made their way there. There wasn’t a tree, bush, or large rock left to disrupt the scenery of those golden waves. Everything was flat, every grain of sand had been combed through to ensure evenness, and all complied with Quackity’s absurdly high standards.
And yet, Ranboo and Wilbur had been looking for Tommy for three days nonstop, and they hadn’t found a single trace of him. The blond had vanished into thin air, leaving a couple of burger patties and some buns toasting on the small grill they’d managed to secure for the Wilburger Ranvan and nothing else.

Summary
The fact that he’d been right about Dream and Wilbur working together, however, didn’t change his displeasure with the situation at hand. Especially because his best friend wasn’t there, so he couldn’t even gloat about it.
Speaking of… it was a bit weird that Tommy wasn’t there.
Dream had made it clear countless times that the other teen was the only thing (because that’s what he saw Tommy as, an object, not a person) he gave a flying fuck about. And Tubbo and Wilbur just weren’t all that close. They’d been like family once upon a time. Back when the older had been someone he could respect. Someone who stood for something worthwhile. But that relationship had been buried far into the past. Currently, the only thing the two of them shared was an attachment to Tommy.
So why was he the one who’d gotten kidnapped?

Summary
A grumpy and tired-looking blond teen slammed open the door to the small supply closet Tubbo was in. “Oi! How long are you planning to sleep? I was supposed to close up and go home an hour ago”. From the old coffee stains on his apron and the halos of sweat dampening his shirt around his armpits and down his back, Tubbo could tell that he should have gotten a break far before that. Although looking beyond the angry blond Pomeranian in front of him, he didn’t see any other employees, so perhaps that hadn't been possible for him.
“I’m up now” he reassured the other teen. “Are you the one I have to thank for healing me?”. Even if there were no others there anymore, he couldn’t be sure that had been the case from the start. He had fainted pretty much as soon as he’d gotten there.
The blond scoffed. “More like bringing you back to life…” he mumbled in a dismissive tone.
Huh?

Summary
“What’s going on…?”.
“He saved the Crown Prince’s life” Master Dude explained. “Bringing him here was the only worthy enough reward the Prince could think of”. That, at least, was reassuring. The intentions of the Crown Prince could still be misconstrued into something nefarious by outsiders, but it was nice to know that he’d just been trying to protect the kid who saved him, in his own way. “As far as we’re aware, he doesn’t have a name, parents, documents, or anything, really. Prince Technoblade decided to call him Theseus, but he only acknowledges you if you use the nickname Tommy”. Tubbo could imagine that their dear Crown Prince was feeling rather butt-hurt about that last part. “I know it’s a lot to ask, but there truly is no one else who can take care of him. I’ll be around to help, so… give it a try? Please?” his begging sounded surprisingly earnest.
There was no point to it; it wasn’t as if Tubbo could refuse after all…

Summary
Sitting on his bench after defeating Dream and talking to the incorporeal voice of his dead brother felt unreal for Tommy. It was the first moment of peace he’d gotten in years. The first time, he was allowed to just exist without the looming threat of an authority figure with malicious intent hovering over his shoulder. And he was happy to share it with Tubbo, despite everything that had happened between them.
He would have been happier about it had his friend not kept trying to bring up his exile when he would rather have done anything not to think about it.
“I just want to apologize. Please” Tubbo repeated for the third or fourth time that evening. Tommy had purposefully gotten distracted at some point and lost count. In his defense, the view from that bench of trees gently swaying in the evening breeze with the sunset behind them was mesmerizing. He wasn’t paying attention to that either that day, but he was sure that, had he been made to feel less uncomfortable, he would have liked to take the time to appreciate it.

Summary
Tommy’s death didn’t make any sense. He was supposed to go down in a blaze of glory, like his brother before him. Instead, he’d died away from view. He vanished with a whimper instead of a blast. He died after the war had already been won, not for his ideals or his country, but just… for what? Because Dream felt like tasting blood that day? Because Sam had gotten distracted and wasn’t there to prevent it? Because Tubbo had kept his distance from him in the past few weeks and wasn’t there to point out that visiting the man who’d ruined his life was a monumentally stupid idea?
It all felt so… unfair.
So, even after Sam tried to chase him away, he waited. And waited. And waited… until he remembered the reason why they hadn’t killed Dream when the whole server had gathered together to take him down. Tommy’s murderer supposedly had a way to bring him back. He hadn’t proven the existence of his powers yet, so Tubbo didn’t know how much he believed it. However, in the small chance that it was true… he couldn’t let him get to his best friend first.

Summary
Tubbo wasn’t a medic.
He was a scientist, sure, but more of the evil and mad kind. He did experiments that led nowhere. He invented nukes. He built machines that he sometimes happened to find a function for. He didn’t repair broken bones. He was completely out of his depth, and the more that awareness settled in, the more panicked he got.
Tommy was still breathing, but how long would that last?
Not knowing what else to do, he went to fish out his communicator from a chest with all of his old belongings from back before the L’Manburg times. He’d stopped using that thing at some point because Wilbur had been convinced that they were getting tracked through it, and he’d had no reason not to believe him. He didn’t know how many people still had theirs; he doubted it would be too many, but still, he sent out a general message of help. He didn’t specify that it was about Tommy, just in case Dream could see it; he just mentioned that he needed someone with some kind of medical expertise regarding hypothermia, broken bones, and a variety of infections.

Summary
There were times when Tubbo wasn’t proud of the kind of person he’d become. During his time as President of New L’Manburg, he’d had many moments of weakness when the alcohol cabinet looked a bit too appealing to resist, or when he lost his temper against someone who didn’t deserve it.
And yet, even after having stooped so low as to resemble Schlatt in all but name, he’d never once found himself quite as confused as that morning.
His hands were covered in blood. That was the first thing he noticed upon waking up. From the absence of stabbing pain anywhere on his body, he could tell that it wasn’t his blood either. Soot was mixed in with the now dried-up crimson stains. Gunpowder too. And a smell he was all too familiar with now lingered in the air; it was the stench of sickness mixed with cheap alcohol.
He was a mess.

Escaping to Utah had been a mistake.
There wasn’t a new beginning waiting for him on the other side of the world, just crushing loneliness.
He found a menial job as a gas station attendant, settled down in a small flat that felt even more cramped than the Camarvan had been, without all the illegal potion stands to fill it up, and went about forming a whole new routine for himself. When the world started closing in on him, he tried to adopt a pet, only to learn that he didn’t have the funds to keep it. Not if he also wanted to eat.
One year went by, and all he did was rot.
The man who’d once stood proud as the president of his own nation was now struggling to hang onto the bottom of the social ladder. Oh, how far the mighty had fallen…
On the day of the first anniversary of his arrival in Utah, he left a letter for his landlord explaining that the shithole he’d been renting had been utterly destroyed and telling him to go fuck himself. Summary
The day of Tommy’s trial arrived much quicker than he’d been expecting.
He was hanging out with Tubbo and making potions they both pretended were drugs one moment, and then bam! He found himself standing behind a crappy wooden desk in a courtroom, with his supposed best friend standing on a podium in front of him, glaring down at him, and Dream to his left smirking at him like the world’s smuggest jackass.
Needless to say, Tommy was not doing good.
Emotions he couldn’t properly identify were battling it out in his gut, twisting it uncomfortably. And it all came to a head when Tubbo coldly asked him to present his defense argument. His brain left him to handle it on his own and dipped out of there. He stared at his best friend blankly for almost a minute. Long enough for the other teen’s irritation to turn into confusion, and then worry. And then there was a big puff of smoke that obfuscated his vision for a few seconds. When it cleared out, the world around him was bigger and warmer and… oh. He knew what had just happened.
