Summary
A glimpse on the life of Władysław III of Poland (Ulászló I of Hungary), the second ruler of the Jagiellon dynasty, leading up to the crossing of Danube at the age of 20, which he never returned from.
He seems to me like one of those ambitious and actually perhaps able young rulers, like Emperor Tianqi of Ming dynasty, who never got a chance to redeem their talent. And after hundreds of years when all the could-be is buried in history they become defined and remembered by the most trivial stereotypes.
But one really cannot help from thinking about what-if-not reading about their lives. History takes cruel plot twists. I guess this short piece of story is about fateful anticipation out of the blissful ignorance that all suffer from. (x)
