His voice wrapped around her. Each syllable hooked her, pulling her to an edge she dared not name. It wasn't just the words; it was the way he spoke them, like each one carried an unspoken promise. His words felt like a lover's fingertips trailing up her spine. The way he lingered on certain phrases—on love, on possession—made her breath grow shallow.
Maker help her, she wanted to be held like that. With the same unyielding devotion, the same brutal reverence.
