Summary
It had been a century since Selphie Xilsatra had stepped foot in Baldur's Gate. The elven ranger did spend a century keeping herself from returning to this place. But now, she was back to see much of the city changed, while remaining the same. One of the things to change was that Astarion Ancunín was a Lord, having raised his former master's palace and building himself a new one. It looked nothing like Cazador's, which was the point, but it still remained the final resting place for many who were unfortunate enough to be lured there.
And tonight, he would be hosting a Masquerade Ball in celebration of 100 years of relative peace. A hundred years since they defeated the Elder Brain - The Absolute - and restored peace in Baldur's Gate. Since Selphie left Astarion's side. Astarion never left Baldur's Gate to look for her, not since she refused to become his spawn - his consort - after he had ascended. She had wished desperately she was able to convince him not to continue the rite. Even from her young age, she knew that was a life Astarion did not deserve. But he had a choice between power and freedom.
And now, he was the most powerful vampire in all of Faerun.

And she does precisely as commanded, her lips turning upward and raising to reveal two sharp teeth— and nothing more. It's uncanny and revolting and wrong. There is nothing behind her eyes, nothing at all. No light, no life, and certainly no love.
There must be a way to undo this. To save her. To bring her back to him. There must be.
