God had punished him by sending him down here, to watch the beautiful creation of mankind be tainted by sin. God had also made sure he couldn’t get rid of the reminder. He hated the sinners, hated that he couldn’t hurt them, kill them for all the destruction they had caused on the once perfect earth. He hated that he couldn’t do anything to them.

Alastor's world had always been colorless, and not once had he felt cheated by that. It was clean and precise, with contrast providing a clarity that color seemed to obscure, at least from his own position as a third party observer.

Summary
Lucifer tries to forget about it, but there's no shaking the memory of Charlie's parting words to him. The painful truth that even his little girl had come to realise- that it truly was best if Lucifer left, that his very presence inevitably made everything so much worse.
Still, in the weeks after Lucifer had promised himself to try. But every time he got near a group of sinners, or ventured too far from the safety of his closed in walls, the memory of Charlie's words returned- and he'd always been too much of a coward to tune it out.
In which Lucifer is not coping well in the aftermath of Season 2, and finds himself falling back into his self-imposed isolation even above the roaring popularlity of the Hotel.
