William felt his heart begin to race like it once had as he sat upon a train bound for London, cornered and scrutinised by the most arresting gaze he’d ever met.
“Sometimes …” It took him aback how his voice became breathless, and suddenly it seemed like he was being dragged soul-first into the depths of those bottomless blue eyes. “I miss the games we used to play together.”
Sherlock’s brow twitched, as though he hadn’t been expecting such a revelation. He took another puff of his cigarette.
“ … what sort of game do you want to play now, Liam?”
It's William & Sherlock's first Christmas in New York. A particularly thoughtful gift is the catalyst for exploring buried feelings, and learning that some loves, regardless of time and place, will never change.

Sherlock stared at the scabbed skin beneath his right eye in the tarnished mirror of a New York hotel bathroom.
The reflection staring back at him looked gaunt; dead-eyed.
Even more dead-eyed than he’d managed to look in his entire 24 years, and that was a feat, to say the least.
He ran his thumb along the edge of the wound, already half healed, and he felt his gut twist.
It had been two weeks already.
Two weeks since they’d arrived on American soil, and Liam still had not woken up.
This is a story about grief and hope.
A story about the something between drowning and living; the story of a gentle breeze; the story of Sherlock Holme's first four months alone in New York City, before William woke up.

Blood.
It was everywhere, suspended in a blur of curling tendrils and clouds like crimson cigarette smoke, and please god, let it be his own, this time.
Let the wound be his.
Let his hands be numb but cleansed, finally, in waters that would end his abhorrent life.
William closed his eyes and felt himself surrender to it once more.
And, just like every other time he’d found himself sinking, hopeless, dying …
Warmth embraced his face. There was light again, and a figure — that angelic image, haloed above him, and then contact at his lips —
Heat coursed through his chest, and he gasped raggedly against the mouth of a man whom he was — physically — little more than acquainted with, and yet — existentially — seemed stitched soul to soul.
