Jake was already in the midst of mental and physical exhaustion. His head was throbbing due to only having 4 hours of sleep the night before. No matter how much he enjoyed the two-day natural science conference he went to as a preparation for grad school didn’t mean he wasn’t drained. All that Jake wanted to do now was to catch some sleep and cuddle with Layla to recharge. His brain was nothing but mush to even process this through. Jake didn’t need to get emotionally sapped out on top of it as well. But with Layla missing, he was spiraling hard to the trifecta of stress.
But on how Jake ended up getting more than just his dog back out of this situation, he had no idea.
Maybe Einstein was wrong all along and the universe does play dice afterall.
