Astrid blinks slowly. That thought came unbidden.
Honestly all of her thoughts are a bit unbidden right now, spiralling and swirling together in a hazy mess that she can’t control and doesn’t really want to. That’s the real kicker with alcohol, not that you can’t control yourself, but that you don’t want to.

Summary
In 2007 Hazel Potter takes her 9 year old blood adopted son Teddy through a modified Veil Archway, wishing to escape their dying world. The two exit out of an Archway in the Department of Mysteries in 1991 before being surrounded by Unspeakables. Hazel informs Director Saul Croaker about her world and he notes that theirs has enough similarities to be concerned. He convinces her to become an Operative for the DoM in order to give her a new identity and a place for her and her son.
