The Winged Lion only has to grant desires that the dungeon lords actually wish for — and it uses that to the fullest extent. It cannot be tricked, it cannot be bargained with.
It is powerful enough to grant most things; however, it will see into your soul, and if the request you state doesn't line up, it shall be promptly disregarded.
Unfortunately for the demon, it wasn't ready for this request.
Laios takes a different approach to dealing with the demon.
