“I said it’s hot.” Dick chided playfully from across the counter. “Be careful or I’m taking the plate away if you can’t wait.”
It was a joke.
Dick hadn’t meant for Jason to freeze. For him to still so harshly and his expression to fall. The boy’s hands, that had been picking at the crust to nibble on the crumbs while it cooled down, paused before Jason snatched them back, gripping the base of the chair with white knuckles.
