    Summary

It’s their first Christmas on the same pro team, a rare day off, and the city is grey and freezing.

Jeremy decides this is the year they do it properly: a real tree from a little farm out of town, a wreath for the door, lights and ornaments, and Jabberwocky underfoot the whole time.

A quiet December day of breakfast, tree picking, decorating, and the slow, certain feeling of: oh. this is home.

    Summary

Jean ends up wandering the apartment trying to imagine what it’ll look like after six months of being there. Jab trots behind him like a little shadow, sniffing at corners and occasionally sneezing. He seems to be handling the move well so far, at least.

“Does it feel weird?” Jeremy asks, leaning against the kitchen island and watching with eyes that Jean can feel even with his back turned.

    “A little,” Jean admits.

Jeremy tilts his head to the side and fresh blonde hair falls into his eyes. He looks frustratingly beautiful, even more than usual, but Jean’s not sure how much of that is the touched-up hair and how much of it is knowing he has his own place with this man. “Bad weird? Good weird?”

“Good weird,” Jean says easily, and that makes Jeremy’s dimples appear.

Jean signs with California after graduating from USC and moves into a new apartment with Jeremy down in San Diego. The realization of how much future they suddenly have hits both of them.

    Summary

“Stay,” Jean says suddenly. “Don’t go anywhere.”

“At the party?” Jeremy asks, amused.

Jean rubs his cheek against him again. It’s a silly habit he only ever seems to do when he’s very sleepy or very drunk. Then he stops, still resting against Jeremy’s jacket. When Jean looks up at Jeremy, he remembers just how big and sad Jean’s eyes can get when he really turns them on him.

“Stay with me,” Jean whispers. “Don’t go back to San Diego.”

Jeremy comes home between games with his professional team and takes care of Jean when he drinks at a party. It turns out they both miss each other more than they've been admitting.

“She did teach me one more, though,” and he turned to step closer to Jean, close enough that he was the only one that could hear as he muttered, “Je suis fou de toi.”

And it was game over for Jean. I’m crazy about you. How could he just say that? His face instantly went red as he sputtered out a response, “Stop it.”

Or: Jean realizes he wants Jeremy as more than just a partner, but could he really allow himself to have that?
