Summary
There is a woods of long shadow whose inhabitants form blind, who grow into hunger that hollows them empty. Baze's boughs bear no fruit, but he gives of himself despite it, because there are greater dangers that loom starving upon the horizon. The threat of the Empire is a stronger impetus than the dread of what the ruler of the woods will do to him.
Baze goes of his own free will.
