Summary
After deciding to sue the department, Buck finds out he has a daughter that he didn't know about. Getting her in his care, he needs to learn how to be the dad she deserves while fighting to get his job back, mending relationships, and navigating the realization that his best friend might mean more to him than what he's been thinking this whole time.

(Ps I mainly chose lawsuit era so that the kids could be closer in age 🤷🏻 if you don't like lawsuit era fics I swear that it's not super relevant past a certain point in the fic. It's very buddie heavy and cute and silly for the most part)

Summary
Given that Buck wasn't expecting Eddie to come out to him, he's too stunned to think rationally, leading to the two of them hooking up. Then, a few months later, Buck is shocked to learn that he's been carrying around a secret passenger all this time.

“What’s it like?”
“Hmm?”
“Sex… with a man,” Eddie supplies, face turning rosy as Buck’s intrigue heightens. “I’ve just been thinking about it a lot.”
“You’ve… been thinking about sex with men… a lot?” Buck asks, slightly flabbergasted by the admission.
“Doesn’t sound like a straight thing for you to do,” Buck jokes.
And when he watches Eddie, expecting a chuckle out of him, he instead sees him take a deep breath before admitting, “Maybe because I’m not.”
“Wow, that– That’s awesome, Eddie. I am proud of you. Thank you for, uh, being– For telling me.”
“Buck, you don’t have to, y’know, say you support me, or whatever. Obviously I know that,” Eddie says, and Buck nods because yeah. “Just… answer my original question.”
The surprise at Eddie’s unexpected coming out, and the way it’s making Buck’s brain sort of short-circuit is at fault for what he says next.
“I could just show you.”

After finding out he's pregnant, Buck gets ready to tell Eddie, only to discover there was an accident at work and Eddie falls into a coma before he could tell him.

“I wanted to tell you this differently. Preferably while you were conscious, but I’m still having a hard time not talking about it with you.” He brings his hand down so both hands are holding Eddie’s. “I’m pregnant, Eddie. We’re having a baby.”
As soon as the words left his mouth a stray tear slipped out without him even realizing it.
This hurts, telling Eddie this way. None of this is going how it should. It’s unfair for the universe to punish them this way, he thinks. They’ve both dedicated their lives to helping people, and this is how they get repaid? Seems unfair if you ask him.
