Keith let out an aggravated noise and shook his head. “You have to learn to stand up for yourself. Even to royal assholes.”
“But then,” Lance teased, “I wouldn’t have my alpha in shining armor running to my rescue, now would I?”
Oops—Lance realized belatedly that he might have overplayed his hand as Keith’s incredulous violet eyes swept back to him.

Summary
Lance knew how to pick them. And by pick them, he knew how to somehow always pick the assholes. And when the current asshole broke his heart and showed him how unloved he was, Lance was done. How could he trust himself to pick someone to love when he never could pick a good one.
Keith wants to be that good one. He wants to be the stars under Lance's bright moon, or the sunflower under his sunshine. But Keith is also scared to ruin their friendship. He's even more nervous to try to confess while Lance is taking a break from dating.
