Summary
After his father sold the town of Schitt's Creek, David and Stevie left for New York CIty, bidding small town life a fond farewell.
Except they can't afford New York, so they end up in Jersey. Running low on David's share of the money from the sale and Stevie's life savings, they find jobs working for a small magazine.
After one of his articles is retweeted by Goop, David is assigned to cover a story about a professional baseball player who recently came out of the closet. David and Stevie travel to Toronto to conduct the interview.
During a Masquer-gayed Ball at a club the night before the interview, David meets Patrick.

Summary
“Okay, fine. Yes, I’m thinking. I have my ‘thinking face’ on.”
David makes a noise in triumph, pressing his face back into Patrick’s neck. It’s warm there against the tense muscle. He moves to stand upright and to massage it. “What about?” He asks, digging into a knot. “Additions to your little garden?”
“Maybe.” Patrick sighs, head lolling to the side as he keeps his gaze trained on whatever point it’s on in their yard. “I was thinking about putting up a hammock.”
“Sure, honey, but it’s raining.”
“Not right now,” he replies lightly. “We have to buy one first, anyway.”
“We?” David freezes. “I’m sorry, but I’m convinced those things are seconds away from snapping at any given time.”
Patrick smirks at him. “That sounds like a rational fear.”
“Yes it is, what’s your point?”
Or, Patrick wants a hammock and David wants nothing to do with it.

David's throat closes up at their names. Fuck, he didn't realize it would be this hard. "Not yet."
"Well, I know they'd be thrilled to hear you're back," she tells him, sliding his coffee across to him. "Stevie's probably still at the motel right now, but Patrick is at—"
"Thanks so much, Twyla," David cuts her off with his most charming smile and bolts from the café with his tail between his legs.
He didn't realize how not ready he was to be back in Schitt's Creek.
