You see, it's a thing now for them, but they don't even realize it. A constant routine of meeting up at the elevator in the mornings, talking about whatever comes to mind so god forsaken early in the morning and then repeating the routine again at night with the bonus of groceries (which means amazing, mouth watering leftovers at Louis' door the next morning) or a sweaty Harry in blinding neon sneakers that remind Louis of a highlighter.
It's a thing and even if neither realize it, they appreciate every morning and evening they get to see each other.

AU where Louis and Harry are neighbors who meet in the elevator of their apartment one morning and it becomes a routine for them. Louis pines a lot. Then one day, Harry doesn't show up at the elevator like he usually does, and well, Louis might panic.

Louis has always been comfortable being Harry’s one and only. When Harry starts to branch out, Louis has a hard time letting him go.
Harry is very lucky to have someone who listens to what he has to say, despite the fact that he’s deaf. He’s finally feeling like he’s coming into himself, but Louis seems bothered by his newfound confidence.

Harry rocks on his heels, uncertain, drifting. If it were daylight, if he could see Louis’ face, maybe he’d see where this was going. As it is, he hazards a guess, smiling beseechingly even though Louis probably can’t see him very well. “That I didn’t know what was going on?”
“I reckon,” Louis says, taking the cigarette from his mouth and flicking the ashes to the ground, “you only ever paid attention to baseball when it involved paying attention to me.”
