Jotaro blankly gazed at the boxes. Before he realized what he was doing, he was standing from his bed, his shoes silently hitting the floor. His knees followed next, then his palms. Like an animal, he crawled across the floor until he came to the boxes, yanking the blanket off of them.
They both had names written on them in black marker.

Summary
Joseph had always dreamt of flying—being regaled with stories as a kid of the incremental march towards flight, and the veritable explosion of flying machines that happened after, instilled in him a sense of wonder at the infinite world aloft. So, naturally, when the war in Europe broke out in ‘39, he took advantage of his father’s position in Britain’s Royal Air Force and hopped the first ocean liner to Southampton, eager to finally take to the skies.
But when he’s shot down over the Alps and finds himself beaten to hell and back with a guarded (and frankly grumpy) Italian pilot who claims to be just as stranded, he’s forced to work with the very enemy he’s been fighting for the past 12 months. Can they put aside their differences to survive the dead of winter and get back home?

Having a partner, particularly one with a stable job, would be just what he needs to convince the judge. In a fit of desperation, he calls Kakyoin with a proposition: marry him until the heat dies down.
Against his better judgment, Kakyoin agrees.

“Why are you here?” Jotaro asks quietly. It’s so direct that it makes Kakyoin pause. He had forgotten that Jotaro hated beating around the bush.
“I could ask you the same question,” Kakyoin scoffs. “I know how to board a bus and get to a hotel on my own, you patronizing-”
“When Jiji said they were sending someone else he seriously meant you?” Jotaro questions, seemingly more to himself than anyone else, considering how he hunches inward, voice so quiet it’s almost hard to hear over the waves.
Kakyoin blinks, the heat of anger pausing in his chest due to overwhelming shock at the pure audacity. Kakyoin blinks again, and the anger resumes, about 20 degrees hotter. “Excuse me?”

Part 4 AU where Kakyoin is alive but at a cost. As he figures out how to pay that cost, he tries to help wrangle the Morioh kids while also trying not to strangle Jotaro (it'd be nice if they could also learn how to communicate again too, but Kakyoin attempts to be realistic).

Fuck school. Fuck home. Fuck this. Jotaro hated every aspect of his life as it currently was. Only, he didn't have much of a choice but to live it. He had to make up the time he had missed in his classes somehow, and there was fifty missing days to make up for. Which he didn't think was a lot, but evidently was. Because since he'd been gone things had changed.
For one, he's taller than he was. And he's seventeen now, he's got stronger arms, a stronger sense of apathy.
And everyone has forgotten about him.
Jotaro has a capacity for anger, Kakyoin has anger reserved only for him. Usually, he isn't taken up on the invitation for a fight, but as he noted, things have changed. And there's a rude-ass ginger sat next to him, in his classes and usurping his friends. Jotaro hates being seventeen, and he hates how now he can't help but notice, even the most annoying people have really fucking pretty eyes.
