    Summary

There’s still a big part of him that wants all the same things he used to. The hockey, those other interests, the simplicity of the smaller circle. But there’s a twinge of something else now beside it when he considers it for too long, a bruise he can’t place the origins of. He’d been able to put somewhat of a name to it, after Rose.

He only wishes he hadn’t filled in the rest of the blanks staring down at a grainy photograph of Svetlana Vetrova in a convenience store parking lot in Boston, a bag hanging off of her manicured finger just transparent enough to make out the logo of a First Response as she’d ducked into a sleek, black sports car, driving away with Shane's best worst would-have-been and, presumably, Ilya Rozanov's baby.

Shane feels no particular way about this turn of events. He really, honestly, mostly is somewhat close to believing that, too. It's progress.

    Summary

His mother’s eyes darken with weariness Shane recognizes instinctually, a grief separate but not wholly unlike his own. A tear makes its way down her cheek, but Shane’s stay put, stubborn, cradled in his lashline like if he doesn’t cry, maybe none of this is as bad as he thinks it is.

“Just—I just have to ask,” she says. Her voice lowers to a whisper, that ever-steady corner of her mouth wavering as her palm envelopes his cheek. “How long have you been hurting?”

My whole life, probably, Shane thinks. I'm sorry. I just didn’t know.

    --

[Or: Shane learns that skill, passion, and meticulous control aren't necessarily immunity, and that rest isn't something he's owed so much as he has to carve out for himself; sometimes with a whisper, sometimes with his pride on the line, sometimes on his hands and knees. And still, regardless, despite—he refuses to give up on this either, even if this time it means believing in himself instead of familiar schedules or rituals. Even if it means his whole life has to change to do it.

Even if it means having to believe that he's worth that much in the first place.]

    Summary

Ilya Rozanov was sitting at his kitchen table. Or his parent’s kitchen table, technically, he hadn’t lived here since he was 19, but the fact remained, Ilya fucking Rozanoz was sitting there, at the same table he did his math homework at age seven, the same table where he was meant to be eating his standard once-a-week dinner with his parents that evening.

“What are you doing here?” he asked stupidly.

Rozanov shrugged, looking amused. “I was invited here."

Shane Hollander is over ten years into a tense, relentless rivalry with the elite asshole that is Ilya Rozanov.

Ilya Rozanov is over ten years into an increasingly desperate game to win Shane Hollander's attention. And if he has to go through Shane's mother to get it, so be it.

    Summary

Ilya Rozanov has signed with the Ottawa Centaurs and the world is very confused.

Zane Boodram is probably the one person affected the most by this shocking turn of events and it couldn't come at a worse time. His mentors and fellow captains are gone, and he's been left to lead the worst team in the league by himself, which is bad enough, but now he has to deal with Ilya Rozanov joining the roster?
The Cents don't have a winning legacy to protect, but they do have a positive team culture built up over years by their previous captain. Bood is determined to make sure that all the work doesn't go to waste, so he's not letting the Russian Menace come in and change it.

Leaving Boston was supposed to be easy.
Ilya wasn't supposed to feel bad about. And he doesn't. Not really.
This is a good thing. A new team. The start of a new life with Shane.
But the Ottawa Centaurs are a mess and things would be a lot easier if Zane Boodram would stop being so weird about it all...

    Summary

Shane is conscious for the entire crash. That doesn’t mean he remembers it.

The brain has a funny way of blocking out trauma like this, of shielding the body from things that would hurt it to remember. But Shane’s ears are still ringing with the sounds of metal crunching and tires screeching, even if there’s a large blank space in his head where the memory should be. The crash was a blur, a blink. Terribly long and then suddenly over, a heavy silence now descending over the eerie stillness.

    Or:

A week after returning from their honeymoon, Shane gets in a car accident that threatens the future he and Ilya so painstakingly fought to build.
