    What if Shane Hollander lost his parents during his Junior years, and didn' thave the support system he once did, and instead had an abusive Uncle that raised him? What if he wasn't Canadian Golden Boy, and instead, was just another invisible face among the NHL drafts?

    What if Ilya Rozanov was the one with loving, wonderful parents? A father, Grigori, who helped his family escape after the fall of the Soviet Union and who worked his ass off to make his immigrant family happy in Montreal? A mother, Irina, who helped manage Ilya's rise to the NHL to become the prodigy he is? Or even his brother, Andrei, who was the supportive big brother that gave him the confidence to try anything?

    What if the first time they meet is the night of the 2009 NHL draft, and... What if they fall in love again anyway, and come to face and conquer the NHL and its homophobia?

    This story is a retelling of heated Rivalry, with Shane and Ilya living each other's lives, coming to love each other, and with the power of Queer Joy, have a different happily ever after than they did in the original story.
