Inherent kindness did not exist. Not as far as Derek was concerned. As the crown prince of the Empire of Quelen, people were never kind to him unless they wanted something.
People were either sycophantic damn near to the point of insulting, or as rude as possible while leaving room for plausible deniability. They hated or loved him for the crown, he was not a living being as far as they were concerned.
That is what he believed until Avery waltzed right into his life and sat down and refused to leave, not that he wanted him to leave.

Avery stares at the death screen, seeing the You Died screen staring back at him. A weird death message lies below, and further down 2 even weirder options for Avery. Try Again or Give up. He would never give up on Derek, so of course he clicks Try Again. At first, nothing. Then, after he closes his eyes, he's back 16 hours earlier. Another chance to save Derek. In a time loop, Avery tries many times to save Derek, waiting for the outcome that will set him free so they can find each other in the real world. Will he succeed? Or will it be a timeless tragedy, doomed to repeat forever?
