6 months into a break from being Spider-Man, Peter and MJ have a blowout fight and finally break things off. In the aftermath, Peter is left hurt and hungering to get back into the field. As it turns out, he won't have to wait long, as a new threat soon arrives in New York along with the return of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
