Summary
Dream was Tommy’s only protection in a world full of literal undead monsters, and now he’s a stain on the grass. The man who’s just killed him stands over the body, wild-eyed and soaked in rain. He has a big homeless-looking beard woven with squirrel bones, and his arm shakes as he wields a bloody wrench.
Uh. Fuck. Play dead, that’s an idea. Tommy lies on his stomach, overgrown blond hair trailing into the mud and hiding his eyes. He tries to stay still, but he can’t help trembling. His breaths are rapid and panicked, more water than air, and he’s skinny and weak and he hurts and as bad as Dream was, this guy can only be worse.
He stops over Tommy’s limp form and hovers like he’s sniffing the air. Please, Tommy mouths through chattering teeth, keep walking, leave, let me live, let me die on my own terms--
“Kid!” His voice is ragged, like he hasn’t used it in years. “Y’Alright?”
