They died knowing that it would be Jack who found them, and it would be Jack who would never be able to except this ending.
They died knowing it would be Freddie Lounds who would have the right to their story, and although Will would never say it out loud he was quite okay with that.
They died knowing Molly Graham will probably never love another, and yet she will have the acute feeling that this was the only way Will would ever be free of Hannible.
They died knowing she would be able to forgive him, because she was able to forgive herself for never being able to save him from Hannible.
You simply cannot save someone who befriends their monsters, no matter how much you try.
They died knowing that the other was happy and at peace.
Or The Cliff scene with the same ending but gayer. That is truly the best summary I can give you.
