“Thoughtful as always, Yanqing,” Jing Yuan said kindly, accepting the flowers and studying them for a moment before speaking once more, glancing up to take in the resolute set of his student’s jaw, “but may I ask the occasion?”
Yanqing looked at him directly, lifting his chin slightly as he said with the simple confidence of a child, “because you’ll be my wife.” Jing Yuan felt his lips part, voice failing him though he was never one to find himself lost for words. Perhaps his expression said it all, because Yanqing then seemed to rush to continue, the words spilling out all too fast. “I promise I’ll protect you, and, and—”
“Yanqing,” Jing Yuan interrupted gently, “I cannot be your wife.”
Rather than looking upset, Yanqing looked back at him uncomprehendingly, mouth now downturned in a small confused frown. “Why not?”
Once he'd set his mind to something, Yanqing was nothing if not persistent.

Summary
“I had a nightmare that the general abandoned me,” says Yanqing’s voice.
Jing Yuan must have reflexively opened his arms to invite Yanqing into his bed the way they used to sleep together when Yanqing was a child, because he wakes up again, with no recollection of having fallen asleep, and Yanqing is curled up behind him. “You’re getting too old for this,” Jing Yuan says with a yawn, to which Yanqing does not reply, only tucks his arms possessively around Jing Yuan’s waist and buries his face into Jing Yuan’s shoulder.
This should have been Jing Yuan’s first warning sign, but he’s exhausted. The bed is warm. Yanqing’s body is finally going through its first growth spurt and he now always runs hot, all his skin stretched taut over his lengthening limbs. There’s a breath on the back of Jing Yuan’s neck, which becomes a careful kiss, and then a long, possessive lick up his spine.

Jun laughs through his nose. “I mean, you know how it is with CosPro,” he says, gesturing to the rest of the group, and, to his dismay, meeting the baffled gazes of three people who most definitely do not know how it is with CosPro.

And so, rather than this pathetic fate, Jun decided to keep his distance and admire the sun from afar.
