And the only reason that wound is bleeding a little now is because fucking Geralt came out of nowhere—after the most humiliating experience of his entire life—and reopened the fucking thing. But that’s fine because he’ll leave and return to the terror of his smuggling work and forget about Geralt all over again. There’s nothing hard drink and the constant danger of execution won’t get his mind off. Because there’s something therapeutic about fearing for one’s life that makes anything not of immediate concern go away.
So yes, things were just fine before Geralt showed up.
Two years post-Caingorn, Geralt rescues Jaskier from prison and sends him with Ciri to Kaer Morhen. However, Geralt suspects Jaskier is hiding serious trauma.

They aren't prepared for his brothers.
Because Jaskier belongs to all the wolves of Kaer Morhen, and they will raze kingdoms to keep him safe.

The Undertaker looks at her like some sort of long-lost treasure.
“Finders, keepers,” he whispers.
Vaguely, she knows that those words should terrify her. But she doesn’t have enough blood left in her brain to register the feeling. Instead, as he tenderly picks her up with one arm around her back and the other under her knees, just before the pain of being moved makes everything go black, her only thought is how romantic it is, that she gets to die in someone’s arms this time.

Then Lance closes his eyes and finds it almost impossible to pry them open again.
Lotor’s voice comes in through Lance’s growing fog.
“What worked?” Lotor asks icily, his grip on Lance’s hair tightening, the strain of it causing a flash of pain in Lance’s skull. A moment later, Lance hears Lotor hiss in pain and loosens his grip.
Lance slowly, tiredly, opens his blue eyes and grins victoriously at Lotor.
“My spell.”
Lance wants desperately to prove his worth - to prove he is more than just a mapmaker. He just never expected that his power would bind him to Lotor and feel like an impossible spell to break.
