And there was another part of her, larger and looming over her, that made her heart ache and yearn for the chance to see her again. She bottled those thoughts away, locking them in the corner of her mind that was reserved for one Samantha Fraser.
Maybe it was the booze, or maybe it was the cheap weed that they could afford, or just wishful thinking, but Deena decided that she would never see Sam again. After all, that’s how Sam wanted it. And who was Deena to deny what Sam asked for?

That is, until the winter storms collapse the school roof and all 700 students are ordered to be redistributed among the district to continue their education. Being selected to attend Sunnyvale for 18 weeks is a blessing in theory; after all, it’s a great school with great teachers and great programs. What’s not-so-great about it consists of the entire student population, especially when the presence of Samantha Fraser becomes a common occurrence between the unfamiliar walls.

So Deena is alone at the front of the shop, trying to figure out why a usual Sunnyvaler is at Shadyside. Despite her inner thought process, the barista part of her takes over as she greets, “Welcome to Shadyside Coffeehouse. What can I get for you today?”
The girl studies Deena as if trying to place Deena’s face somewhere, and then a look of recognition flashes in her blue eyes. She doesn’t comment upon it, however, and instead answers the question. “Can I get a large oatmilk latte?”
